As police reported, a priest was stabbed today during morning mass in the Saint Joseph’s Oratory, Montreal, where the alleged perpetrator was reportedly arrested shortly after the incident.
“The suspect was then taken into custody, transported to a detention center and will be interviewed by investigators later today [local time],” said Caroline Chèvrefils, a spokeswoman with Montreal police.
The victim suffered minor injuries to his upper body and was taken to hospital, but his life is not at risk, according to the spokeswoman.
“Witnesses say the priest was celebrating mass and suddenly, the suspect went towards the priest to attack him with a sharp object,” the spokeswoman said.
According to ANA-MPA, by the time they arrived, the alleged attacker had already been restrained by the oratory security staff.
