The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, Pope Francis, the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welpi, and other leading religious leaders took part in an “Ecumenical Prayer Vigil” tonight in St Peter’s Square.
The ceremony is scheduled to end at 8 p.m. local time and is being held at the initiative of, among others, the well-known French monastic community of Taizé.
At the same time, the vigil was attended by over three thousand young people, who arrived in the Italian capital from all over the world.
As the Tese community underlined, “This meeting, which takes place in Rome and at the same time in other parts of the world, focuses on a simple ceremony to listen to the word of the Lord, with a long moment of silence and intercession for peace”.
According to the organizers, “the preparation of the vigil was a real exercise of Synodality, with the desire to have many ecclesiastical associates take part in it.
More than fifty, different denominations, who worked together, in close collaboration with the competent sectors of the Catholic Church”.
Tomorrow, the Ecumenical Patriarch is to preside at the Divine Liturgy at the Orthodox Church of St. Theodore of Tiron, in Palatino in the Eternal City.
