On Saturday the 19th of August, the Pontian Brotherhood of WA held its annual feast day celebrations at the Church of St Nektarios in Dianella.
The day commenced with the Hierarchical Matins and Divine Liturgy officiated by Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea.
Following the Divine Liturgy, the procession of the icon of Panagia Soumela took place with many young children from the Pontian Dance group partaking, dressed in their traditional costumes.
Students from the Greek Orthodox Saturday School of Evangelismos also attended the service and after the dismissal were taken on a tour by Bishop Elpidios throughout the entire Archdiocesan District of Perth offices.
Students visited the Archdiocese mini exhibition located on level one of the building and were also shown pictures of all the churches in WA. In addition, the Bishop spoke to the students about the leadership of our Holy Archdiocese showing them photos of Archbishop Makarios of Australia as well as Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.
This was then followed by the Pontian Panegyri that took place on the church grounds of St Nektarios, next door to the Perth Archdiocesan offices.
Approximately 200 people were in attendance, including the Greek Consul in Perth, Mrs Georgia Karasiotou.
Overall, the event was a huge success with many young families attending from all the parishes of the Archdiocesan District of Perth.
