Patriarch Theodoros of Alexandria and All Africa performed the Palm Sunday Liturgy behind closed doors at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St. Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria.
He pointed out, “The Light of the Resurrection comes from our own hearts and it will expel all viruses from the air. We will be able to receive the Son and the Word of God. This year we did not lay palm branches on the ground. We did not light candles for the Bridegroom. We did not comfort the Virgin Mary in Golgotha. We did not decorate the Epitaphios with lilacs. We did not anoint the Epitaphios with perfumed oil. We did not embrace each other in order to show our love in the courtyards of our churches. However, the Light of the Resurrection overcomes limitations, prohibitions, and the fear in people’s souls. The Light of the Resurrection illuminates the hearts of all those who, in spite of fear, attain the most perfect union with Christ.”
