The Holy Diocese of Kisangani was founded through a Patriarchal and Synodal Tomos in 2018, having in its spiritual jurisdiction the administrative districts of Kisangani, Ituri and Uélé. At the time of its foundation, the Diocese had 3 Parish Communities in the large urban centers of its jurisdiction, St. Nicholas in the city of Bunia, the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary in Kisangani and St. Demetrius in the city of Isiro, with the corresponding churches, which were built by Greeks living there.
Today, another Church has been built, Saint Anne-Saint Catherine Church in Kisangani, one is under construction on Lake Alpert in Bunia, while two more Parish Communities have been established. The aforementioned parish churches are served by indigenous clergymen.
