The total amount of 50,000 euros was collected by the Church of Crete in a fundraiser made in the holy monasteries and parishes of Crete, apart from the affected Metropolises of Kydonia and Apokoronos, and of Kissamos and Selino.
The fund was implemented in the context of the implementation of the relevant Synodal decision, and the amount will be devoted for the material support and relief of the flood victims, mainly of Western Crete, to meet their basic needs.
The Church of Crete also expresses in its communiqué its thanks to the monastic fraternities, to the holy Clergy and to the people of the island for their practical sympathy for their afflicted fellow human beings.
Actually, on account of the latest difficulties faced by the island because of the extreme weather phenomena, it points to the urgent need for everyone to respect the natural environment and the creation of God, in general.
