The youth of Northcote District organized a successful educational workshop dedicated to the tradition of making Palm Crosses from palm leaves. The Palm Crosses are blessed on Palm Sunday during the Holy Liturgy and the faithful take them to their houses as a blessing.
The purpose of this workshop was to pass on this sacred tradition of palm cross making to those who yet had not had the opportunity to learn this art, so they could then return to their individual parishes and actively participate in the making of the Crosses that each parish requires to distribute to the faithful on Palm Sunday.
Bishop Evmenios of Kerasountos blessed the opening of the workshop on behalf of Archbishop Makarios of Australia. Bishop Evmenios who was very enthusiastic about this initiative, shared with the participants a few thoughts on the importance of this tradition. At the end of the workshop, the Bishop conveyed the Archbishop’s wishes for a spiritually fruitful Holy Week and for a peaceful Easter.
