Municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli to deliver Holy Fire to all homes on Easter Day

The Municipality of Elliniko–Argyroupoli has different plans for the Easter Day. With the help of a large network of volunteers and the Municipal Police, the approval of local Metropolitans and the blessing of the priests, the municipality prepared a plan for the Holy Fire to reach every home on the night of the Resurrection, thus avoiding mass gathering outside churches.

The Mayor of Elliniko–Argyroupoli, Giannis Konstantatos, stated that a group of volunteers would transfer the Holy Fire to the city on Saturday, April 18. “The cohesion of our society is being tested as never before. Let us all unite as a family, with the common denominator being the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, remembering that the Light of the world, Jesus Christ, with His Resurrection won a victory over the forces of darkness,” the mayor said. He added that this action aimed to strengthen our struggle by staying at home in order to end the pandemic spiral.

The plan is ready

The mayor said that in the coming days, “in order to avoid mass gathering outside the churches, the way in which the Holy Fire will reach every home in our city will be announced.” In his communication with ethnos.gr, Konstantatos clarified that the plan was ready and, if the Holy Fire reached the municipal authority, it would include the following:

  • All homes will be notified so that those who wish can place a lantern at the entrance of each apartment building.
  • About 400 volunteers with gloves, masks and the necessary protection measures will be responsible to receive the Holy Fire and to distribute it to every home. The time of arrival of each volunteer will not be announced so that people do not wait on the road.
  • After the volunteer has distributed the Holy Fire to every home on every street of the city, municipal police patrol vehicles with loudspeaker will then inform the people that the Holy Fire has been distributed so that they collect the lanterns and distribute it to all the tenants.

The mayor of Elliniko–Argyroupoli told ethnos.gr that an agreement was reached with the Metropolitans of Nea Smyrni and of Glyfada while the local priests greeted the project with enthusiasm, which had already been greeted with enthusiasm by the citizens.
