There have been 107 coronavirus cases linked to a religious service in a church in Frankfurt. German authorities pointed out that there had been an “upward trend” in the number of coronavirus cases. 42 more cases have been also reported in other churches in the State of Hesse.
Rene Gottschalk, the Frankfurt health authority’s chief, said that one person, who was found positive, had been treating at the city hospital. She added that the other people among the faithful did not show any symptoms but they remained at home. In the meantime, authorities have been tracking down the people they were in contact with recently.
The situation is similar in the cities of Hanau and Wetteraukreis in Hesse, where 42 cases have been reported. People contracted the coronavirus due to their participation in a church service. Six of them are now being treated in a hospital in the area.
As a result, a new suspension has been introduced regarding the operation of several churches in the state despite their reopening on the 1st of May in accordance with the new safety guidelines. In addition, the events scheduled for the end of Ramadan fasting, in which more than 100 people would have participated, have been called off.
