The Russian Orthodox Church has no plans to create its own cryptocurrency or receive Bitcoin donations, said today the Chairman of the Department of External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.
“I think we will probably not accept Bitcoin donations, and it is doubtful whether we will create our own currency. But by phone, I think donations can be made for the church,” the Metropolitan said during a live broadcast on YouTube and Jesus-portal.ru. This was the answer to a viewer’s question of whether the Russian Orthodox Church accepts Bitcoin donations and whether it intends to create its own cryptocurrency.
Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk also pointed out that many temples have their own websites through which donations can be made for charitable purposes.
