The Metropolitan of the Ecumenical Throne, Dionysios of Synada, fell asleep in the Lord today, Wednesday, April 14, 2021, at the age of 75.
Charalambos Sakatis was born in Prigipos on September 4, 1946. He graduated from the Theological School of Halki in 1971. He was ordained a deacon in 1971 by the late Metropolitan Evangelos of Pergi. He served as a Deacon in the Diocese of the Princes’ Islands in Constantinople.
He was ordained a presbyter in 1989 by Metropolitan Kallinikos of Lystra. On September 15, 1996, at the Patriarchal Church of Saint George in the Phanar, he was ordained titular Bishop of Synada. The ordination was performed by Metropolitan Konstantinos of Derkoi, along with the Metropolitans Philippos of Tyana, Kyrillos of Seleucia, Meliton of Philadelphia, and Dimitrios of Sevastia.
He served for several years as the Hierarchical Head of the Phanar – Keratius Gulf Region, of the Archdiocese of Constantinople. On July 7, 2015, he was promoted to Metropolitan.
Ecumenical Patriarchate released an announcement on the repose of the Metropolitan of Synada, according to which, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, decided that the funeral procession would be held on April 2021, at 12.00 noon.
In the morning of the same day, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy of the presanctified gifts will be performed, at the end of which a funeral Trisagio will be read for the rest of the soul of the Metropolitan of Synada under the Rev. Metropolitan of Kallioupolis and Madytos Mr. Stefanos.
The funeral will be delivered by Hierol. Patriarchal Deacon Mr. Ecumenist Amanatidis and the burial will take place at the Cemetery of Zoodochos Pigis at Baloukli, in Constantinoples.
