On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, the memory of Saint Hieromartyr Charalambos will be celebrated at the historic Church of Saint Charalambos in Çeşme (Krini).
Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna will preside over the Divine Liturgy.
The Metropolitan of Smyrna, speaking to orthodoxtimes.com, stressed that this is not the first time that a service is held in this church after the Asia Minor Disaster.
“The Ecumenical Patriarch held a service, with the permission of the authorities, in 2016,” he said characteristically. Another divine service followed in 2019, with the presence of the Ecumenical Patriarch and the Metropolitan of Smyrna.
“Tomorrow, because of the pandemic, there will be no faithful in the church. We will go to honor the Saint and to commemorate the owners of the church”, stressed to orthodoxtimes.com Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna.
The Metropolitan of Smyrna, referring to the church of Saint Charalambos, stated that it is the Metropolitan Church of the formerly mighty Metropolis of Krini, which was originally a Diocese and belonged to the Metropolis of Ephesus, until the beginning of the 20th century (1903) when it was upgraded to a Metropolis.
