“For a canonical Church, there is only one canonical Metropolitan. Neophytos is the canonical Metropolitan of Morphou, Isaias is the canonical Metropolitan of Tamasos, Vasileios is the canonical Metropolitan of Konstantia. The Church of Cyprus, and I as the Metropolitan of Morphou recognize Onufriy as the canonical Metropolitan of Kyiv,” said Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou.
Metropolitan of Morphou is aligned with the position of Metropolitans of Kykkos and Limassol, who recognized Onufriy as the sole canonical Metropolitan of Kyiv and stressed that they could no longer remain neutral.
In his speech on November 26, 2019, at the Primary School of Akaki, he stressed, “We can no longer remain neutral. Whom do we recognize as canonical bishop for many years? The most Orthodox Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv. He is still the canonical Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine.”
Metropolitan Neophytos made reference to the Pan-Orthodox Synod saying that the schism became graver during the period given by the Church of Cyprus.
“It is necessary that a Pan-Orthodox Synod should be convened to sort things out. However, until then we cannot remain neutral. Somebody has to be the canonical bishop in Ukraine, somebody has to be commemorated. Onufriy is that person, who is full of Holy Spirit.”
