Speaking at the MEGA television station, Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia recommended that everybody should remain calm.
“Churches cannot be closed,” Metropolitan Chrysostomos noted, “just as public services or Parliament cannot be closed, because that would mean the dissolution of the state.” He also expressed his concern about the instrumentalisation of the decision by the Holy Synod either for opposition purposes or “for allegedly showing their putative progressivism” by those who accuse the Church of obscurantism.
Regarding the proposals for “alternative” ways of offering the Holy Communion, Metropolitan Chrysostomos noted that these were “secularized concepts” and “standards coming from other traditions” while making clear that every faithful is free to participate in or abstain from the sacrament.
