The Church commemorates Venerable Amphilochios (Makris), Elder, of Patmos.
Saint Amfilochios Makris was born on February 13, 1889, in Patmos.
He was tonsured a monk on August 27, 1906, at the Holy Monastery of Theologos, where the young Athanasios was named Amfilochios.
He was ordained a deacon by Metropolitan Agathangelos of Kos on January 27, 1919, at the Church of Saint Nicholas in Kos. He was ordained a presbyter on the Sunday of Thomas on April 5 of the same year by the Metropolitan of Samos and Ikaria, Konstantinos Vantzalidos, in the Church of Saint Spyridon in Vathi.
On November 14, 1935, he was elected Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Patmos and he founded the Holy Monastery of the Annunciation in 1937. In 1939-1940. he served as a priest at the Holy Pilgrimage of Panagia Diasozousa (Salvation).
Elder Amfilochios Makris reposed in the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 1970, and was buried on April 17 in the cemetery of the Holy Monastery of the Annunciation.
He was canonized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate on August 29, 2018.
