The Church commemorates Martyrs Archelaus, Cyril and Photius, Holy Martyr Conon of Isauria, Saint Conon the Gardener, Martyr Eulambius and Venerable Conon who practiced in the region of Akama in the province of Paphos.
Martyr Conon the Gardener came from Nazareth in Galilee and lived during the reign of Decius (249-251 AD). When he came to Pamphylia, he chose a small place and created a lush garden by planting cabbages, from which he supplied himself and the poor.
Conon was simple so that even when those who came to arrest him and lead him to the ruler kissed him in a derisive way, he kissed them with dignity.
And when they told him that the ruler was calling him, he answered, “Why? What need does he need from a Christian like me? The soldiers tied him up and led him to the ruler. He urged him to sacrifice to idols.
The saint then boldly said to the ruler: “I wish you too could renounce idols and embrace Christ.” Then the ruler ordered that he be tortured mercilessly.
He endured all the tortures for the true faith in the Gospel and the love of the Savior Christ. Saint Conon ended his life with the martyrdom of blood.
