Today we celebrate the memory of Saint Athanasios the Pentaschoinitis, who was born in the early 7th century AD in Cyprus. When he was still young, his mother died. Since his childhood, Athanasiοs has strictly observed the commandments of God.
Saint Athanasios was philanthropist and was giving all that he got to the people in need. He always had the blessing of God, and the wheat container, and the oil and wine jars at the storeroom were always full!
“For his soul pleased the Lord: therefore hasted he to take him away from among the wicked” (Wisdom of Solomon 4:13). In his twenties, Jesus hasted to take him away. The Lord decided to glorify the saint through his miracles.
We know few but important things about Saint Athanasios written down by Venerable Anastasios Sinaita, Abbot of the Monastery of St. Catherine at Sinai, who was from Amathus and is commemorated on April 21.
Saint Anastasios reposed in the Lord in the early 8th century. The memory of the saint began to be celebrated in 2000.
