The Church commemorates Prophet Elisha and Saint Methodius the Confessor, Patriarch of Constantinople.
Prophet Elisha was the son of Shaphat, a wealthy land-owner, and became the attendant and disciple of Elijah, according to the Old Testament.
Elisha became Elijah’s close attendant and his successor in the prophetic office until Elijah was taken up into heaven. Elisha was also a wonder-worker.
