Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa in the framework of a visit of the Patriarch to Athens and discussed the challenges of the time, making it a priority to preserve the unity of the Orthodox Churches.
The meeting reviewed all issues related to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria, discussed the challenges it is called to manage in the area of spiritual and ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Patriarch, and stressed the demanding role it is called to play in Africa for the benefit of Hellenism and Orthodoxy.
The Prime Minister reiterated to the Patriarch the full support of the Greek government on all issues concerning the Church of Alexandria and the Greek Orthodox flock in Africa.
During the discussion, it was confirmed that, at the current juncture, maintaining the unity of Orthodox Churches remains a high priority.
