The Holy Monastery of Saint Catherine on Mount Sinai and the issues it is facing today were at the heart of today’s meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, between Deputy Foreign Minister for Diaspora Antonis Diamataris and Archbishop Damianos of Sinai, Pharan, and Raitho.
During the discussion, the Archbishop made a brief historical overview of the Mount Sinai Monastery, while analyzing the issues the monastery is currently facing, such as, among other things, the ownership status, the need for support by the Greek state, and the effort to preserve the important relics that it owns.
For his part, Deputy Minister Diamataris emphasized the Greek State’s interest for the uniqueness of the Monastery, as a place of monastic practice and worship, and a place that preserves the Greek Orthodox cultural tradition.
