In an interview with ERT, Minister of Education Kostas Gavroglou said that the Association of Clergy of Greece (ISKE) is not the voice of the Church of Greece.
He referred to previous statements of the ISKE spokesman, saying that there are peaceful ways to react, adding that “elections are coming”. The minister of Education expressed his view that ISKE was not an expression of the Church.
The minister considered the statement to be unfortunate, adding that the hierarchs, although they were unfavorably disposed towards the agreement proposed by the government, did not use that language.
He underlined that the ministry did not respond and considered that the ISKE disagreed without putting forward any argument.
He also spoke of the need to rationalize the relations between the Church and the State, in order to guarantee the rights of the priests and to keep the public finances in order.
