An invitation to the Greek President of the Republic, Prokopis Pavlopoulos, to attend the ceremony of the inauguration of the Church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Cairo, was delivered by a delegation of the Patriarchate of Alexandria.
Mr. Kavalis, President of the Greek Community of Cairo briefed the President on the work done on the landscaping of the Temple and on the scheduled celebrations.
The President congratulated Katerina Sofianou, Archontissa of the Churches and Mr. Kavalis who have contributed significantly to the implementation of the project, stressing the great importance of Hellenism’s presence in Egypt and throughout the African Continent.
He then referred to the very important missionary work performed by the Patriarchate of Alexandria and asked Metropolitan George of Guinea, representative of the Patriarch of Alexandria in Athens, to convey his wishes to Patriarch Theodore.
The church was founded in 1914 and was thoroughly renovated with the care of Mrs. Sofianou and of the Greek Community of Cairo.
Archbishops Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece and Chrysostomos II of New Justinian and all Cyprus have already been invited by the Patriarch to the ceremony.
