“During his ministry, the late patriarch expressed the deep Orthodox feelings of the Serbian people, as well as his hope for a better tomorrow,” said Maximos Charakopoulos, secretary-general of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy (DSO), in a condolence message sent to the Serbian Orthodox Church for the repose in the Lord of Patriarch Irinej.
In his message, Maximos Charakopoulos stated the following:
“In overwhelming sorrow, the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (I.A.O.) precedes today the late Patriarch Irinej of Serbia. The respect of all of us accompanies him. We worked together in many circumstances of urgency and revelation of the truth of the Church of Christ and came to experience his devotion up close. The late Primate, during his Patriarchal service, reflected the profound orthodox feelings of the Serbian people, as well as his hope for a better future.
Until today, he strived, without sparing any effort, for the unity of the One and Indivisible Church of Christ and the troubles that concern the modern world. His self-denial was not restricted during the difficult pandemic period we are going through. In the coming judgment, the Love of all orthodox accompanies him.”
The I.A.O. will be represented at the funeral service by the parliamentary delegation headed by the Member of the I.A.O. International Secretariat, Member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Čotrić.
