The Director of the Press, Information and Communication Office of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens, Haris Konidaris, made the following statement:
“The standing position of the Archbishop and the Church of Greece is known to all and has been expressed clearly on many occassions: there is absolutely no national, social or other need for revising and changing Article 3 of the Constitution or for the introduction of an ideologically, politically, legally and scientifically vague, deliberately passive and ambiguous and supposedly modernizing clause on a state of religious neutrality.
Especially, when Article 13 of the Constitution absolutely guarantees the inviolability of religious freedom for all citizens.” Mr. Konidaris referred to the analytical positions of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece on the whole issue, as reflected in its recent memorandum to the Presidents of the Parliamentary Parties and the independent deputies.
