Father Christos Pappas, a priest in the USA, managed to survive coronavirus disease who had been treated at a hospital in New Jersey.

As he stated in newsit.gr, he had a high fever and a persistent cough. Those symptoms were sufficient to lead him to the intensive care unit.

“At first, I had a fever and a cough. I immediately contacted my doctor, and he gave me the first instructions. When I was not feeling well, I went to the hospital. I went to the hospital mostly due to the shortness of breath. I had a high fever, but the shortness of breath was the biggest problem for me. So, I was intubated in the intensive care unit at the hospital, where I stayed for ten days. Then they gradually started waking me up until I recovered, but I stayed for another ten days at the hospital. I was discharged on Easter Sunday afternoon. Since then I have been staying home to recuperate from the disease, and I have been ordered to stay home for another two weeks.”

The protopresbyter, who is a priest at the Church of the Assumption in Fairview, said he had been given some drugs for malaria and Ebola to treat pneumonia and organ failure, while a doctor at Holy Name Hospital told him his condition was critical.

“When I got well, a doctor, who is a friend of mine, told me about the difficulty of my case and that I had a 20 per cent survival rate, so now I believe that with God’s help I finally managed to overcome the problem.”
