AHEPA District 20 calls upon the members of the Greek American community to pray for the health of 29-year-old police officer, Shay Kellin Miaklonis, who was shot by a protester during the Las Vegas riots.
AHEPA District 20 posted on Facebook the following message: “Prayers for our Brother who was very seriously injured when he was shot in the head from behind while attempting to make an arrest in the middle of a riot. He did not deserve this! He is FIGHTING for his LIFE!”
“In true warrior fashion, he’s still fighting. He had a surgery where they were actually able to remove the bullet that was lodged in his neck,” said officer Steve Grammas, president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association.
Mikalonis has been employed as a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer for four years. His initial medical condition was reported as “grave” as he was placed on life support.
His alleged shooter, 20-year-old Edgar Samaniego, has since been jailed on multiple counts, including attempted murder.
