The Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was held at the Church of Saint Alexandros in the Greek Community of Lusaka officiated by Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia on Sunday, November 15, 2020. During the Divine Liturgy, Saint Nektarios, Bishop of Pentapolis, was proclaimed the patron saint of the Metropolis of Zambia.
The Divine Liturgy was attended by the Consul of Greece, Michael Kroupnik, the Consul of Cyprus, Christos Spyron, the President of the Greek Community of Lusaka G. Iliakopoulos, and the representative of the government of Zambia, Dr. D. Samoulempa.
The Metropolitan of Zambia in his speech referred to the historical event of the consecration of Saint Nektarios Church in Chingola, his patience and work which is considered a great legacy.
Metropolitan Ioannis expressed gratitude to the Triune God and offered the special emblem dedicated to the 100th anniversary since the repose of Saint Nektarios, on behalf of Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria, to the Consulate General of Greece in Zambia.
The Consul General of Greece in Zambia, Michael Krupnik, stressed: “This distinction is a great honor not only for the Consulate but for the Greek community of Zambia. The great virtues of Saint Nektarios, the patron saint of our community, are extremely important elements for our own lives. The preservation of our national consciousness and the Greek language in times of critical national circumstances are due to the Church and the ardent hierarchs.
