Minister of Education, Research and Religious Affairs Kostas Gavroglou gave a press conference this afternoon, at the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace.
Regarding the dialogue with the Church and the notice for the writing of new religious education textbooks, the Minister of Education stated that “we have completed this dialogue, but this does not mean that the respective committees do not meet.”
According to ANA-MPA, he also pointed out that “School textbooks are responsibility of the State and they are not written in a federal way. The question is how much the State will hear, incorporate and use the latest views and developments in pedagogy, in order to write a book. The Institute for Education Policy (IEP) and the Church agreed that we should continue with the dossier on Religious education in order to have an even more complete assessment of this class. This goes fine.”
With regard to the changes in the history books the Joint Committee of Greece – North Macedonia is examining, in application of Article 8 of the Prespa Agreement, the minister stated: “It is part of the agreement, there is a working group coordinated by the two ministries of Foreign Affairs and this working group will come up with some conclusions. We will see these findings, it is not a matter for September, it is a scientific matter, purely scientific. We will see what is being proposed and we will discuss it.”
