Christian Orthodox Church remains the “dominant religion” in Greece

Greek Parliament’s vote on Prespes Agreement will be held on Friday

the Greek Parliament

With nine major provisions out of a total of 49 proposed by New Democracy and SYRIZA that involved 28 articles of the Constitution, the Parliament Plenary sealed the new constitutional charter of Greece today.

The nine constitutional changes concern, among other things, the ability of Greeks abroad to vote in their place of residence (received 212 votes).

Also Article 3 has not changed nor its 3 paragraphs have been revised, which means that the proposal on religious neutrality has not passed and the Christian Orthodox Church remains the dominant religion in Greece.

Articles 3, 13, 33 and 59 on the safeguarding of the State’s religious neutrality, political oath and distinct State-Church relations were also rejected.
