In an announcement of his, Emeritus “Patriarch” Filaret Denysenko opposes the decision by the Ministry of Culture to permit the Uniate Archbishop to hold a service in St. Sophia of Kiev.
The Emeritus “Patriarch” expresses his concern, stressing that “it may cause confrontation between the Orthodox and Uniates”.
“Such an event could be used by Russia to harm the Ukrainian people” emphasizes “Patriarch” Filaret. Moreover, Denysenko appeals to Archbishop Svyatoslav not to hold a Divine Liturgy, pointing out that this is an unusual event for Ukraine.
“This event is as if an Orthodox Archbishop held a Divine Liturgy at Saint Peter Cathedral in Rome”, continues “Patriarch” Filaret’s announcement.
Finally, the Emeritus “Patriarch” argues: “We still want to have good relations between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, as we do during the last decades. Please, give up your wish to hold a service in St Sophia’s Cathedral in Kiev”.
