Saint Theophano the Empress was commemorated by the homonymous parish of the city of Nijmegen in the Netherlands, on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December 2020.
The Great Vespers was performed on Friday afternoon and then the sacrament of Eucharist by observing all the precautionary measures against the spread of the coronavirus. The main aim was the empowerment of the faithful so as to overcome the current difficulties and to better prepare themselves for the upcoming Christmas celebration.
Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and the Exarchate of the Netherlands and Luxembourg celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Saturday morning. He thanked the two priests of the church, Fr. Filadelfos and Fr. Wilibrord for their effort and zeal. He also wished all the best in regard to the small parish of Saint Theofano which is still under construction and has made significant progress. The parish will meet the spiritual needs of the faithful living and working in that part of the Netherlands.
