The Patriarchate of Alexandria celebrated the memory of Saint Sabbas the Sanctified in the Patriarchal Church in Alexandria.
On Friday, December 4, 2020, a Great Vespers was celebrated by Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa and Metropolitan Narkissos of Naukratis and Bishop Germanos of Tamiatheus were prayerfully attending in the altar.
Minister of National Defense Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, who is paying a two-day official visit for the joint interdisciplinary exercise of Greece and Egypt “Medusa 10”, in the sea area of Alexandria, attended the Divine Liturgy. Ambassador of Greece to Egypt Nikolaos Garilidis, representatives of the Greek community of Alexandria and a large number of believers in the city attended the Divine Liturgy.
After proclaiming the Divine Word, addressing the minister, the Patriarch said: “I would like to express my warm thanks to all of you who came tonight to celebrate the Feast of Saint Sabbas, but, above all you, Minister, and I am sure that the saints who they lived in this Church here, they will rejoice.”
Concluding his speech, the Patriarch added: “May Saint Sabbas bless our homeland, our troops, our Egypt, our blessed island of Cyprus and so let this beautiful blue Mediterranean Sea spread the message of peace and love among the peoples. Welcome my children, may God bless you all.”
On the feast day, Saturday, December 5, a Patriarchal Divine Liturgy was performed by the Patriarch of Alexandria with the participation of Metropolitan Narcissus of Naucratis and Bishop Germanos of Tamiatheus at the Patriarchal Church
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch, referring to the faithful, said: “My blessed children, I would like to send my wishes from the bottom of my heart. This year is so strange, so difficult. But in this difficult year, our saints are our comforters, like our Saint, the Blessed Sabbas, who was the man of God.”
