Metropolitan Polykarpos of Spain and Portugal (Polykarpos Stavropoulos), is expected to be elected the new Metropolitan of Italy by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Throne on Thursday, January 14, 2021.
According to exclusive information of OrthodoxTimes, the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Throne is expected to select Metropolitan Polykarpos from Nafpaktos as the successor of late Metropolitan Gennadios of Italy, who fell asleep in the Lord on October 16 last year.
Metropolitan Polykarpos has a long experience after serving the Italian Orthodox Church from 1990 until 2007, when he was elected Metropolitan of Spain and Portugal. From 1992 to 2007 Metropolitan Polykarpos also served as Protosyncellus of the Metropolis of Italy.
According to exclusive information from Orthodoxtimes.gr, either Bishop Maximos of Melitene of the Metropolis of France, or Bishop Kirillos of Abydos, will probably be elected as the new Metropolitan of Spain.
