At midday on Tuesday, 10 October 2023, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived in Athens, Greece, being invited by the Church of Greece, in order to announce the opening of the International Academic Conference for the celebration of the 100 years of the “Theologia” periodical.
At the “Eleftherios Venizelos” airport, the Ecumenical Patriarch was welcomed by the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis, as a representative of the Greek Government.
The Ecumenical Patriarch will meet with Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece at the Archdiocese, on Wednesday, 11 October 2023, in the afternoon, after which they will make their way to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Athens, where the celebratory opening of the Conference will take place, in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Primates of Churches, Delegations of Autocephalous Orthodox Churches, as well as other dignitaries.
During his visit to Athens, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will be accompanied by Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon, Metropolitan Theodoritos of Laodicea, The Grand Ecclesiarch Archimandrite Aetios, Director of the Personal Patriarchal Office, Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Throne, Father Eleftherios Chrysochoos, Patriarchal Deacon Father Epifanios Kamianovych and co-workers from the Secretarial offices of the Patriarchate.
