The death toll from Sri Lanka’s churches and luxury hotels bombings on the morning of the Catholic Easter Sunday has now reached 310, the police said.
Many of the -about 500- injured people succumbed, explained the police.
According to the same source, 40 suspects have been arrested at this stage of the investigation conducted by the authorities for these attacks. They are members of a Sri Lankan Islamist group, National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ).
Today, has been declared a national day of mourning by the government and, around 08:30 local time (06:00 Greek time), at the time of the first attack on Sunday, a three minutes’ silence was observed as tribute to the victims.
The flags wave on the island, liquor stores are closed, radio and television networks are forced to modify their music programs. The country has been in a state of emergency since yesterday by a decision of the authorities.
In St. Anthony’s Shrine in Colombo, the theatre of the first bombing, dozens of people prayed silently, with candles in their hands, some holding their tears and cries back with great difficulty. As soon as the three minutes of absolute silence passed, the crowd began to pray loudly.
