The Metropolis of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia organized on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, a commemoration event for the Fall of Constantinople, titled “The City Has Fallen”, in the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Philadelphia.
During the event, the Choir of Traditional Music “Panagia Vourliotissa”, under the direction of Konstantinos Stavroulakis, sang church hymns, chants, laments and songs related to the Fall of Constantinople.
At the end of the event, Metropolitan Gabriel of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia congratulated all the participants for the good organization of the event.
He then referred to the glorious Christian and cultural splendor of Byzantium as well as the importance of historical memory, stressing that “for all the Greeks and all the Orthodox, Byzantium will always live in our hearts, in our mind, in our tradition, and in our way of life.”
