The decision was taken by the Standing Synod of the Church of Greece during the first session, which convened today, September 3.
Specifically, there was a special ceremony during which 48 Greek students received a scholarship for postgraduate studies abroad and 37 students from Sister Churches received a scholarship for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Greece. Filotheos Theocharis.
The Chairperson of the Scholarship Subcommittee, Metropolitan Ignatios of Dimitrias and Almyros, said that it was a success for the Church of Greece to maintain this institution in difficult times.
Then, two scholarship holders (one Greek and one foreigner) took the floor and thanked the Archbishop and the Holy Synod for granting these scholarships. They stressed how important those scholarships would be for them and their studies.
Archbishop Ieronymos said that, despite the severe financial hardship, the Church did its best to offer. However, thanks to the persistence of the members of the Subcommittee, this effort will continue, even though they suffered financial cuts, in order to meet today’s needs. Finally, the Archbishop congratulated the fellowship-holders on what they have accomplished so far, assured them that the Church would continue to be interested in their health, progress, success, and wished them not to forget this great honour they received.
