Zakynthos today honours its patron saint Saint Dionysius, with crowds of people attending the celebrations at the homonymous church.
The religious celebrations have started from the early hours today. More precisely the vigil began at 2:00 after midnight, the Orthros service (Matins) took place at 7.30 and then a polyarchieratic Divine Liturgy was concelebrated by the Metropolitans Chrysostomos of Dodoni, Panteleimon of Vryoula, Makarios of Aneon, Damaskinos of Didymoteicho, Eugenios of Rethymno, Athenagoras of Ilion, Daniel of Axomi, Chrysostomos of Messinia and Dionysios of Zakynthos.
At 11.00 the procession of the holy relic of St. Dionysius began solemnly on the streets of Zakynthos, accompanied by the clergy, the political and military leadership of the island and a large number of believers.
Yesterday evening a procession of the relics took place withing the celebrated temple, followed by the Festal Vespers, officiated by the Metropolitan of Didymoteicho.
