The Bulgarian Orthodox Church marked on the 24th February 2021, eight years since the election and enthronement of Bulgarian Patriarch Neophyte and metropolitan bishop of Sofia, the Holy Metropolis of Sofia has announced.
To mark the occasion a divine liturgy took place at the metropolitan cathedral Saint Nedelya.
As reported by bnr.bg, on the 24th of February 2013, the Patriarchal election church council elected, by 90 votes, the metropolitan bishop of Ruse Neophyte, born Simeon Nikolov Dimitrov, as Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
He was elected after the death, at the end of 2012, of Bulgarian Patriarch Maxim at the age of 98 – the last head of an Eastern Orthodox Church from the time of communism.
