Fight against minority discrimination on Roma Liberation Day

Orthodox Metropolis of Zambia: Let us share our faith and our heritage

“Roma Liberation Day”, which was celebrated on February 20, was marked last Friday at “Ion Creanga” school in Târgu Frumos with a series of cultural activities.

Ana Maria Doleanu, inspector for minorities – Iaşi County Inspectorate, explained to those present that “discrimination hurts, and children should not know this pain.”

“It is necessary to know the history of the minorities around us, learn to appreciate people, correct, if possible, behaviours and attitudes. Today, the students had a life lesson, beautifully said, from the heart to soul,” Ana Maria Doleanu said.

In compliance with sanitary norms, the event was attended by 30 students from the 7th and 8th grades, most of them from the Roma community.

Father Alexandru Baciu, referent at the Minorities Department of the Archdiocese of Iaşi, made a presentation of the subject from a historical perspective. Artist Alexandra Bulancea performed the Roma anthem, “Dželém dželém lungóne droméntsa”, the traditional Roma song, “Ederlezi” and a Romanian doina.

The second part included a lecture by writer Lenuța Neacșu, who highlighted the importance of education in Roma students’ lives.

“The life story of Mrs Lenuţa Neacşu was a lesson on how to become Baro Manuś- an adult. Our students sipped every word to today’s guest. I tend to believe that the meeting changed something in their soul, whether it is an attitude, a thought or a promise for the future,” said deputy director Ana-Maria Ştefan.

The activity entitled “Together on the Day of Liberation”, in its second edition, was organized by the Department of Minorities of the Mission Sector of the Archdiocese of Iasi, in partnership with the Iasi County School Inspectorate.
