For the first time ever in the history of the Greek Orthodox Church in Canberra, a Bishop celebrated the service of the Resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
With the Blessings of Archbishop Makarios of Australia, Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis led the service assisted by the Parish Priest Very Reverend Petros Kipouros.
Multitudes of people flocked to the Parish and Community of St Nicholas in Canberra chanting the Christ is Risen hymn.
After the proclamation of Christ is Risen, the Bishop conveyed all the love and best wishes of Archbishop Makarios of Australia and openly thanked the Archbishop on behalf of the people of Canberra for creating the Archdiocesan District, an expression of love that the Archbishop has for the people of Canberra. Moreover, the Bishop spoke about the Light of Christ bringing hope and joy thus for this reason we should not be in despair or sad. He then encouraged the faithful to follow Christ.
At the end of the service, he read the prayer for the blessing of eggs and he distributed the eggs to the faithful.
