“Greece has already exhausted all the possibilities to receive refugees and needs genuine and concrete European solidarity,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Markos Bolaris during his speech at the Climate and Security Conference organized by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Berlin.
Markos Bolaris highlighted that migration was one of the consequences of climate change, analyzed Greece’s efforts made since the beginning of the refugee crisis, and underlined the need for the European Union to deal with the issue provding co-ordination and solidarity.
“European solidarity and cooperation is needed between states and peoples. Migration is a reality that we must deal with as civilized peoples, facing people who either because of war or because of poverty or authoritarian regimes or because they have no drinking water due to climate change are forced to leave their home and relocate,” said Deputy Minister Foreign Affairs in ANA-MPA.
He added that Europe must move from a “observance and defense planning” stage to a wider planning and tackle the “strategy, coordination and solidarity” problem. In this context, we must ensure respect for international as “some are trying to take advantage of the storm for their own gain.”
