LAST UPDATE: 12:50
Due to the COVID-19 and its resurgence in Egypt and the city of Alexandria, the Patriarchate of Alexandria and the Greek community of Alexandria will celebrate the Feast of Theophany in a different manner.
Thus, for the first time since he was elected Primate of the Second Throne Patriarchate, Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and All Africa will not throw the Holy Cross into the Mediterranean Sea, as he did every year at the facilities of the Greek Yacht Club of Alexandria.
The service of the Blessing of the Waters will be performed by the Patriarch within the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin in Alexandria, in compliance with all precautionary measures taken by the Egyptian government to curb the spread of the second wave of COVID-19 in the country.
Due to the same measures, the governor of Alexandria and the other authorities of the city will not be able to visit the Patriarch to exchange of wishes for the new year, as usual in the previous years.
In the same vein, the Greek Yacht Club of Cairo announced that the Blessing of the Waters in the Nile River and the cutting of the Vasilopita would not take place this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Greek Yacht Club wished everyone Happy New Year and hoped that this pandemic would be over soon.
