The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Research Foundation, a pioneering and important work of historical heritage, is established in the historic Monastery of the Holy Trinity Monastery Zangaroli in Chania, Crete.
The Foundation will preserve the archives and items of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, whose ministry has indelibly marked the course of the Orthodox Church.
The Ecumenical Patriarch will be invited to inaugurate it, probably around October 2023.
As reported by The National Herald, Elder Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon will be the president of the foundation.
This great work is led by the Abbot of the Monastery of the Holy Trinity Monastery Zangaroli, Bishop Damaskinos of Dorylaion, who spoke about the monastery to The National Herald.
The Bishop stressed that the liturgical life in the monastery had not been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. On the contrary, the monks’ prayers have intensified by asking the Lord to help to put an end to this deadly virus quickly.
“After all, this is what the faithful ask of us and this is the duty of the monk, that is, to pray, as always, for God to have mercy on us. “Now that human life is in such great danger, we all need it more than ever.”
For the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew Foundation, he noted that this was a pioneering and important work of historical heritage that will preserve the archives and items of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
“It will allow the creation of archival material with the ultimate goal of saving it and passing it on to future generations. The aforementioned elements are the essence of the project and we are all very proud that it will be implemented soon.
The Foundation will be governed by the Council which will consist of important people from the Orthodox Church and the society in general.”
Referring to the Greek Community in the USA, the Bishop of Dorylaion stated that “you are our valuable ambassadors on such a distant continent that keeps the Greek Orthodox faith alive.
You are the ones who celebrate every anniversary of Greece, who teach your children our language and they pass it on to the next generations.
The spread of our language means the spread of our culture and you are the inexhaustible source of the spread of Greek culture all over the world. We are proud to see you progress and excel.”
