The autocephaly of the Church of Ukraine was the subject of a speech delivered on Monday by Bishop Kirillos of Abydos, professor of theology at the University of Athens and at the Institute of Postgraduate Studies in Orthodox Theology in Chambésy, Switzerland, as part of the lectures delivered – mainly by Russians – on this issue.
Bishop Kyrillos, at the invitation of the Institute of Oriental Studies and Faculty of Theology of the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), analyzed the main aspects of the Ukrainian autocephaly issue: Ukraine as a canonical jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Throne, the right to appeal, the entry of schismatics into the canonical Church, and the existence or nonexistence of apostolic succession of schismatics, and in particular, the former schismatics of Ukraine.
There was a discussion on the subject and the faculty expressed its intention to publish this speech along with other relevant speeches.
