The Archdiocesan Council met for the first time after the pandemic, with the participation of clergy and laity from various organizations and committees of the Archdiocese of America.
Hosted by Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit, the meeting of the Archdiocesan Council was convened by Archbishop Elpidophoros of America and took place in conjunction with the spring meetings of the council of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society.
As the Archdiocese of America points out in a relevant post on social media, Archbishop Elpidophoros addressed the attendees with a sense of optimism and unity, recognizing the challenges faced over the last four years.
The pandemic posed unprecedented obstacles to the vitality of the parishes and institutions of the Archdiocese, requiring constant adaptation in the face of evolving health conditions. Recognizing that the coronavirus can remain part of our lives indefinitely, Archbishop Elpidophoros stressed the remarkable ingenuity shown by the Greek Orthodox community.
He praised the resilience and commitment of the faithful to adapting to the changing landscape, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and solidarity.
The Archbishop also stressed that the success of the Church extends beyond measurable activities and ministries.
Recognize the importance of intangible moments of connection, thanksgiving, and spiritual wealth. The Archbishop stressed the importance of cultivating relations between the brothers in the Risen Lord, highlighting compassion, mercy, and unlimited love as the foundations of ecclesiastical life.
Presentations were made by Vice-President Yiannis Katsimatidis and the President of the Hellenic College of Timios Stavros Georgios Kantonis.
In addition, the Archbishop of America with Archimandrite Bartholomew Mercado, professor of ecclesiastical law at the Holy Cross School, conducted an extensive review of the process of revising the Charter of the Archdiocese, followed by questions.
There was also a generous donation of $110,000 from the National Ladies Philoptochos Society of Greece.
President Arlen Siaveli Kell, First Vice-President Annita Kartaropoulou, and their spiritual advisor Bishop Athenagoras of Nazianzus handed the donation to the Archbishop of America.
