In his Christmas encyclical, Archbishop Chrysostomos of Cyprus stressed the need for strict compliance with the COVID-19 protective measures. Regarding the Cyprus issue, the Archbishop said that unity, readiness and stability must counterpose to the plans of Turkey, reacting with every lawful way to unjust and hostile plotting.
Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that from the outset the Church of Cyprus and the Archbishop accepted all the restrictions set by the competent authorities because they were inspired by their love towards the human beings and hoped that the situation would be ameliorated.
The Archbishop congratulated the clergy and the people for their exemplary discipline to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the churches, although the deprivation of active participation of the faithful in the services caused sorrow to all.
“We must strictly observe the prescribed measures. Only with a spirit of unity and self-discipline, we can overcome the risk of COVID-19 pandemic.”
Referring to the Cyprus issue, he pointed out that Turkey, with its latest interventions, had shown its true colors for a two-state solution.
