“The Omogeneia in Australia, together with our brothers and sisters in Greece, mourns the loss of two young children who sacrificed their own lives to save the lives of their fellow human beings. Two real heroes who served consciously, with bravery and self-denial, the common good.”
The above is noted by Archbishop Makarios of Australia in his post on Instagram about Captain Christos Moulas and Lieutenant Periklis Stefanidis, the two firefighting aircraft heroes who were sacrificed on duty during the firefighting operation in Platanistos, Karystos, in Evia.
“The gratitude we owe them is infinite,” the Archbishop points out, “and, as a small expression of it, we pray with all our heart that God will grant them eternal rest, as well as strengthen their relatives and friends who are experiencing unspeakable pain in these hours”.
The message of the Archbishop concludes with the assurance: “Christos, Pericles, we will never forget you! Be your memory eternal!
