Thousands of food parcels and basic necessities will be distributed today to people in need by the Holy Archdiocese of Athens.
The Archbishop blessed this morning the parcels that will be distributed to about 10,000 families following an initiative by the General Philoptochos Fund and the charity organization APOSTOLI of the Archdiocese of Athens.
“The Church, because of its purpose, has things that are stable and extraordinary. These are extraordinary and it is not the first time. They come and go,” the Archbishop said, referring to the current situation, noting that we are called to adapt and that the result of the situation in Greece is much better than in other countries.
He also referred to the effort of supporting people in need, stressing that it could not be done only by one body, therefore co-operation is needed. He then underlined the co-operation of the General Philoptochos Fund with the charity organization APOSTOLI of the Archdiocese of Athens, which has been supporting thousands of families in need for years.
Answering questions from journalists about the Church’s stance during this period, the Archbishop pointed out that “we have two elements, the element of the Eucharist and that of the gathering. The Holy Communion is not under discussion; the gathering is something different.” He also stated that there is a good relationship between the Church and the State. He finally thanked and congratulated the doctors, the nursing staff and the researchers, as well as the journalists for their work.
