Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece was present at the inauguration ceremony of the new President of the Academy of Athens, Anna Benaki-Psarouda and the Vice-President, Loukas G. Christoforou, for the year 2020.
The Minister of Education, Niki Kerameus, was also present as a Government representative, while party representatives, MPs, and academics attended the ceremony. The Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese of Athens, Archimandrite Varnavas Theocharis accompanied the Archbishop.
Outgoing President Stefanos D. Imellos spoke on “The work of the Academy’s Research Centers and Offices in 2019” followed by a speech by the new President, Anna Benaki-Psarouda, on “Problems in Criminal Justice in Greece and the new Criminal Codes. ”
Mrs. Anna Benaki-Psarouda has been honoured with decorations and medals of the Hellenic Republic and foreign Parliaments and Heads of State, and is the first woman President of the Academy of Athens.
